Liguria & Cinque Terre

Visiting

Montecatini, Firenze, Cinque Terre, Lucca, Pisa, Portofino,

Rapallo, Santa Margerita, Siena, San Gimignano.....

From the aircraft right to Montecatine Terme, the biggest “spa town” in the whole of Italy. Be adventurous and hop on a cable car to visit Montecatine Alto. Look forward to visiting Firenze, the “Jewel of the Renaissance”.  Go up the dome of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, better known as the Duomo, to be stunned by the view of the city below you. Look at the amazing Battistero and wonder at Giotto’s masterpiece. Take a picture with Ponte Vecchio as the background before you proceed to the market stalls for a bargain or two. Enjoy the elegant squares and find time to spend at Piazza Signoria to get a closer look at the buildings which dominate this open space.

Discover the coast of Liguria when travelling through the wonderful seaside town of Santa Margerita Ligure with a historical centre featuring a 17th century baroque Basilica, a castle and many al fresco bars and restaurants.  Be the first to take a boat which sails to Portofino and take in the breathtaking view of the yacht marina. From down at the port, find yourself up on the hill, this time to have a good look at Castello Braun to take in the magistic view. Before you depart on the boat again to take you on your way to Rapallo, don’t forget to look for that something special from the cute little shops at this sweet village. Once in Rapallo, look up at the numerous Palm trees overpowering the bay and take a memory back home of the colourful buildings. Don’t miss out on Castle Rapallo, the imposing castle on the sea.

Few localities can compete with the natural beauty of Cinque Terre. Before enjoying such treasure, make a stop at Porto Venere, equally a pretty hideaway. Jump on a boat and hold your breath as you absorb  the sight of the five villages – the Riomaggiore, Manarola, Cornilia, Vernazza and Monterosso. Be stunned when exploring the latter two by setting foot on land. Devour a delicious lunch with a view which will be stamped on your mind, making you want to visit again.

Continue to discover the region of Tuscany when visiting Lucca. Choose one of the four gateways to enter the main square, Piazza dell’ Anfiteatro and wonder at the beautiful residential buildings and outdoor cafes. Put your tastebuds at work when visiting the winery at Montecarlo.  End the day, figuring out how to take a picture of the leaning tower of Pisa, the Cathedral and the Battistero in Campo Santo at the Piazza dei Meracoli.

Another day, another amazing trip, this time to Siena, a lovely medieval city. Get to the heart of the city, at Piazza dei Campo where the popular Palio, the horse races, take place twice in summer. Look at the Palazzo Comunale, the town hall, also known as the Palazzo Pubblico, a dominating building in the square.  Remain in the province of Siena and call on the hill town of San Gimigniano.

Complete your journey by visiting yet a few more towns in the region of Tuscany.  Get lost in the large market of  Viareggio and complete your shopping for this trip. Find yourself in a pool of white surroundings and marvel at the marble quarries.  Roam the town of Bolsena and relax near the volcanic lake before you start your return journey home.
